Jokowi shows UGM certificate in court
In a hearing as a witness in the case involving Roy Suryo, Jokowi lifted the S1 UGM diploma with both hands so it could be seen by the panel.
The moment drew attention because the authenticity of Jokowi’s degree has long been debated and led to legal proceedings.
Roy Suryo, who was near Jokowi, was observed laughing when the former head of state presented the certificate. The reason for his laughter remains unclear.
Education background revealed
Jokowi recounted his schooling from elementary to university, stating he attended SD Negeri 111 Surakarta, SMP Negeri 1 Surakarta, and SMA Negeri 6 Surakarta.
He continued his studies at the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Gadjah Mada.
When asked about the department, Jokowi explained that during his time there was no formal departmental division and students could choose courses based on interest.
He said he took many courses related to forest product technology or wood technology.
The defamation trial focuses on allegations that Jokowi’s degree is fake.
Earlier, Bareskrim Polri confirmed the authenticity of Jokowi’s S1 degree from UGM’s Faculty of Forestry based on forensic laboratory examination, “Ijazah S1 Jokowi dari Fakultas Kehutanan UGM asli berdasarkan pemeriksaan laboratorium forensik,” kata Petugas Bareskrim Polri, Kamis, 05/11/2026.
The court will continue to evaluate witness statements and evidence presented by the parties according to procedural rules.
