Plan to Build Pilot Parking Building in Boulevard–Karebosi Area
Makassar plans a pilot parking building in the Boulevard–Karebosi area to tackle illegal parking and traffic congestion.
Mayor of Makassar, Munafri Arifuddin, is focusing on orderly parking to enhance city appearance and free public spaces.
“One of the plans we are proposing is the construction of a special two‑wheeled vehicle parking building on Jalan Boulevard, exactly beside Hotel Denpasar,” said Adi Rasyid Ali, Director of Perumda Parkir Makassar Raya, Senin, 19/10/2026.
The concept under study is to revitalise existing shop houses into a two‑floor parking building.
Further technical assessments with related regional devices are required, especially concerning technical aspects, asset legality, financial feasibility, and permits.
Road Median Improvements and Additional Parking Pockets
Median road improvements are planned for the area around Panakkukang Mall, covering Jalan Boulevard and Jalan Pengayoman.
The Ramayana area on Jalan A.P. Pettarani is considered a potential central parking pocket to support Car Free Day activities on Jalan Boulevard.
Access for vehicles will be managed through Jalan A.P. Pettarani, while the Boulevard corridor used for Car Free Day will be reshaped for pedestrian comfort.
A central parking pocket is expected to support community activities, reduce vehicle density, and open opportunities to optimise local revenue through better parking management.
Karebosi Area Development
Karebosi is included in development plans because of its strategic position in Makassar’s economic centre.
It is surrounded by Jalan Ahmad Yani, Jalan Kajaolalido, Jalan R.A. Kartini, and Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, near trade, culinary, and office centres.
Perumda Parkir sees potential in Karebosi through official parking pocket arrangements, integrated parking for events, electronic parking systems, and a possible parking building.
With planned management, the area could become a city parking hub that supports mobility and economic activity while reducing congestion and increasing local revenue.
The various initiatives will be followed up with technical and feasibility studies at each site, covering proposals, cost estimates, investment feasibility, site maps, design concepts, implementation steps, and financing schemes.
